Two of my gardens

Yesterday I posted that I have a plethora of lettuce that needs eating. In this first picture you can see my vegetable patch (on a weird angle, I know. I was trying to get more of it in that way). You can see the sunflowers all over the place and the purple is the lettuce coming up wherever. Last fall when my MIL pulled the seeding lettuce from the garden she placed it in the compost. A *great* idea for lettuce that is *not* seeding. She did the same with the sunflower seeds the she swept off the floor of the shed. When I pulled compost out of the bin and worked it into the soil the seeds self-propagated and now I have sunflowers and lettuce EVERYWHERE.

The tall poles out of the ground are for my pole beans. I have a fabulous pairing of both purple string beans and a spicy, long, skinny green bean. They grow beautifully together. In the picture there are also some yellow wax bean plants, some carrots, spinach, beet root, onions, tomatoes, zucchini, marigolds and basil. Most of that stuff you won't be able to see for the lettuce and sunflowers.

I have also posted a pair of pictures that Quinn and I took this morning of one of our perennial beds. (Again, sorry for the odd angles.) I love my flowers as much as I love my veggies. We are to get some rain today too.

You have such a lovely family - and a pretty nice garden too! I loved reading about Henry's life and about your father's day celebrations.
