Christena turns 65! and the babies fly the coop

Well, last Thursday we made sure to set some time aside to help Christena celebrate 65 healthy years and offer our wishes for many, many more!! She agreed to have dinner with us and I was able to make a family favourite . . . terre-whacky (teriyaki for those outside of the immediate family and who have no idea what terre-whacky is) chicken kebabs and veggie kebabs. It was a nice, humid and warm evening so BBQ was the only way to go! After dinner we dove into the birthday cake and shared the gift with the birthday girl.

Doug, Jennifer, I were talking when Jen was here last month about the fact that mom seems determined to come into the new millenium with an MP3 player of some kind. We have all been indoctrinated into the Apple/iPod world here so it was a no-brainer as to what kind of a unit we would buy. Jen, Nino, Doug and I shared the cost of an iPod Nano.

While Christena was in Collingwood the weekend before her birthday Doug and I slipped into her apartment, borrowed some of her favourite CDs and created a 10 disc (so far) playlist just for her on Doug's computer. This way he can add music for her whenever she wants.

The reaction on her face when she opened her gift said all we needed to hear. Now she will have to learn to use it and how to take advantage of the special tricks she can do with it, but that will come in good time. Doug possesses the patience to teach skills like that.

IN OTHER NEWS

The birds have left the nest. I came home last Tuesday afternoon to find mama bird was gone and both of the chicks were on the bench on our front porch (a few feet below their nest). They remained there through dinner and I noticed when I left for work at 6:20 that we were down to one out front. The young one remaining was back up in the nest reassuring me that they didn't fall out of the nest but rather chose to depart.

By the time I returned Tuesday evening both chicks were gone. The next day or so saw the mother again and yesterday she returned to sit in the nest. Now I have to "google" morning doves to see if she could be laying another set of eggs. Wow! If she *is* than I feel for her. Two children in one season is one thing but two SETS of children??!!??!!

AND . . .

Last Wednesday evening babyREADY received an email from a journalist at the Toronto Star. She wanted to write an article about baby planners in the GTA and discovered that we are the only company offering such services.

She was even more impressed because she could not find anyone else, anywhere who offers the eco-conscious approach that babyREADY offers. YAY! Kristin and I spent 40 minutes speaking over the phone last Friday and then she followed up with a few more email questions last night. She hopes to be able to put the article to print sometime this week. We are SO excited!! We didn't go looking for her. She came looking for us!! (Vibes, prayers, positive energies for this to put babyREADY on the proverbial map would really be appreciated!!)

That's about all there is from here.
Signing off,
Frizzy but happy in humid southern Ontario
