(this is a copy of an email I posted to a list of friends. Thought it would be the easiest way to let you know what I've been doing. I will post a holiday update soon.)
***************************************
Last weekend my sister and her partner of almost 15 years decided to get married. I was asked (when we were children) to stand up as her witness. You can imagine that the past couple of weeks have flown by in a flurry of excitement as plans for this party came to a head. I have really been enjoying the lead up to the weekend and all that that has entailed.
Last Thursday my brother moved home from Taiwan (after almost 5 years of living there) and although his plane got in at 6 am I was lucky enough to be the person living closest to the airport so I was able to go and pick him up. It was WONDERFUL to see him again and to know that he is planning to stay this time. For now anyway.
The wedding set-up was Friday afternoon and the rehearsal the same evening. Saturday we spent the day getting ready and enjoying ourselves. I am fairly certain that I enjoyed myself A LOT at the wedding (which was BEAUTIFUL btw) because Sunday morning I woke up and thought I was going to die.
No problem. I would just go to my sister’s for the post wedding BBQ and slowly sleep the afternoon away in the chair in the shade in their back garden. Better check my messages first.
OMG!! I mean . . . GREAT!! A client whose water has broken and she is ten days early. I thought I told her not to go into labour this weekend. Oh well. My back up was there. She was in the safe and extremely capable hands of my dear friend, Teresa. I knew Teresa had plans for the afternoon though so I managed to grab a 2 litre bottle of club soda on the way out of the house and drove across the top of Toronto from far east to far west (Guelph) to help my clients.
A long labour later (and I won’t go into detail about how I had to teach a class Monday evening and so Teresa came and saved my butt again by covering for me) and the couple gave birth to a healthy baby girl – with Teresa – on Monday night. I got back to the hospital in Guelph around 11:00 pm from Mississauga where I was teaching. Baby and family were doing really, really well. Whew! I could finally go and get some sleep.
Not so fast. The next client was ready to be admitted to hospital Tuesday morning at 9:00. She is a past client and friend and so Ela and Paul (the second couple) had a baby boy on Tuesday afternoon at 4:03 pm. Just in time for me to finish and go downstairs to teach another class.
Wednesday morning dawned with me pulling out the items I needed to host a L/LA meeting at my place (yes, I know I am retired but my co-Leader is new and didn’t feel comfortable doing these meetings alone so I have been hosting them all summer) at 10:30 am. No big deal. Everyone relaxed, visited and tried not to notice that I was barely conscious. I was fine by the time I got to the hospital to teach last night though. I had rested.
Today I have not done anything but read. I read book one (Twilight) on August the 11th, book two (New Dawn) on the 12/13th – I still had to keep working and looking after my children so it was hard to keep my reading commitment up too, – book three (Eclipse) over the weekend, and book four (New Moon) yesterday and today.
The worst part of EVERYTHING???? Now what am I supposed to read??????????
Hope you have all had a great couple of weeks.
I have to go and shower so I can do a home visit, sign another client and get to the post-volleyball gathering this evening.
HUGS and VIBES to all
Sam
PS – Thanks again Teresa. Have I told you lately that YOU ROCK?!?!?!?! xo
