Last year, around the winter solstice, Fergus and Quinn began learning how to skate. Prior to this experience neither had shown much interest in the slippery stuff that provides such entertainment for so many Canadians. Fergus tried skating when he was about three (with his Tris) but wasn't a natural and was still in the "if I can't do it perfectly the first time I try then I won't do it at all" phase of his life.
Now he and Quinn are flying around the arenas and are having a blast doing it.
Fergus loves the hockey component. That said he is a natural "share-r" and therefore when he sees that games aren't even or that one person is getting more puck time than another he becomes stressed out. I don't know that he would make it very far on a team. At this point he isn't interested in joining a team. He likes that he is able to play pick-up with other kids who have about the same skill set that he has mastered.
These are some of the shots of our Monday Afternoon Beginner Homeschool Skating here in Georgetown. I will also include some shots of the Public Skate Fergus, Jennifer and Christena attended on Sunday. Public skates are more something Quinn would likely enjoy. He is not my hockey kid. He loves to skate but just to have fun, not to score goals.
Some of the other children included in these shots are Cole (tall blond in a blue coat) and Chad (skating with his mother). These are Ferg and Quinn's friends from Erin. The four boys are well matched in age and interests. Adam, (Ferg's BFF) is the child in all of the formal hockey gear. Alex is Quinn's friend and the boy Quinn does maths with a couple of times a week.
We have a great time!!!
