One province, five states down . . .

The majority of this message is a copy of an email I sent this evening summarizing our trip so far. Thought I would post an update, as often as possible, here for those of you who want to know what we are up to.
***********
The alarm sounded at 4:00 am this morning for Doug. He got up, showered, shaved and ready to wake his wife. I don't know that either of us slept well last night, no matter how much wine was consumed last night. We both kept waking and looking at the clock. Neither of us wanted to sleep through the alarm and we both wanted to be on the road by 5:00 am.

We let the boys sleep until the car was loaded and got them, jammies on and all, into the car and under the sleeping bag we had in the back for them. Quinn slipped back into unconsciousness and Ferg listened to several sections in HPOOTP on the iPod. He didn't listen/hear where Doug told the border crossing guard that we were headed. Quinn thought he heard but interpreted it to be Ottawa (a place he is familiar with) instead of Florida so they are both still in the dark about out final destination.

We are in North Carolina at the moment. Staying the night in Charlotte. What a GREAT trip so far!!! It’s SO fun!! We are having a great time. Really sticking to the speed limit (or within 5 kms/hr of it - often even below the posted limit) we managed to get here in 13.5 hours including stops. Mapquest was right!! Means we should be in Orlando in 8-10 hours tomorrow making this a faster trip than I anticipated. We only stopped for one meal and fuel once. A couple of pee breaks and a Starbucks adventure for me and that was it. We just got back from eating at a smoky Irish Pub. (Forgot one shouldn’t assume that establishments here would be smoke-free as they are in Canada.)

We hope to be on the road by 8-8:30 am. It would be neat if we were able to meet with a friend in northern Florida tomorrow and another friend in Orlando on Friday. Will see what I can arrange.

Love and hugs to all. Will try to post pictures as the week progresses.
