Saturday's repas

Appetizer

Given the choice, would you prefer to live in the country or in the city?

Country. No question. I love the idea of the quiet of the solitude but relish (sp?) being about to slip into an urban centre whenever needed. Alas, it is but a dream. Doug's mom does not drive so we will live in more urban settings. That's okay. I am pretty happy where we are now too!! My family makes my home feel like home so wherever they are, that's where I am happiest!

Who is the cutest kid you know?

That's a terrible question to ask the mother of TWO children. I guess it depends on the day. Some days it is Fergus, with his quick wit, amazing sense of humour and sweet nature. Other days it is Quinn who exhibits some of the funniest displays of affection and is so easily able to laugh at himself. On other days altogether, it is the child I do not know and most certainly am NOT related to!!!

Fill in the blank: I couldn’t believe it when I heard ___________.

My sister and her partner were engaged! (This was after 12 -- I think -- years of dating and about 10 of living together.) They have scheduled their planned nuptials to take place this coming summer.

Main Course

If you could star in a commercial for one of your favourite products, which one would you want to advertise?

Klean Kanteen water carriers. I just wish people would stop using petroleum (read plastic) products to put food and beverages in. Petrol belongs in your car, not in your stomach which is where it ends up when you heat a petroleum product. Some are worse than others but all plastics leach.

Dessert

What type(s) of vitamins and/or supplements do you take on a regular basis?

When I am really run down I take a Womyn's Multivitamin. I try to eat well-balanced meals though instead of taking extra supplements. So much of those vitamins and supplements (especially the ones sold in the grocery store and such) doesn't actually get absorbed into our systems anyway that it feels like a waste to take it. We love salads and other leafy greens here so we get what we can from our meals.

Klean Kanteen sounds like a great way to carry water, but it requires planning ahead—something humans are not particularly noted for. Any suggestions for carrying food that might need to be heated later?

It *does* take preparation and time to get used to taking your water with you instead of getting it while out, you're certainly right there, Lee. I take my leftovers in small, ceramic or glass casserole dishes. That way I can heat them in an oven as is, or move them to a pot to reheat them in a pot. The biggest challenge there is that most employers don't offer a full stove for heating meals. I hate using a microwave because of how it eliminates the nutrients of the food. It can be a Catch-22 in situations like that.
There certainly isn't a perfect solution, short of working from hom all of the time.

Sigh. I have never worked anywhere that provided a stove. Many employers don’t even provide a ’wave. I’ve been looking for fiberglass to use instead of plastic, but I haven’t found any. (Yes, fiberglass is the new asbestos.) Glass and ceramic are just too fragile to take to work every day.

I work from home as much as I can, but I usually eat too much when I do. It’s always something.
